Green Chef — Skip the store & have organic arrive right at your door! ((#Review))

You’d think that after blogging for (almost) three years that I wouldn’t be so excited when boxes arrive, but I am! Every. Single . Time. So, when this box from Green Chef appeared on my door step, I couldn’t wait to see what was inside. And the toddler must get his enthusiasm for packages from me because he was my shadow throughout the entire unboxing.

Once you slice open the outer box, a bag of compostable material is revealed. This stuff acts as nontoxic and completely recyclable insulation. I was blown away with how cold it was inside of there. If for any reason your box arrives when you’re away from home, it will not spoil!

Upon pulling back the compostable stuffing there is a strip of reusable ice packs. I threw them into our freezer and plan to use them in an ice chest for our next roadtrip!

Lift up the ice packs and you’ve arrived at the tasty ingredients !

The ingredients are color coordinated and divided to make  two meals for a family of four. Based off my families personal preferences, we moved some ingredients around, tweaked the Sweet and Sour Pork recipe, & completely changed the second recipe. Everything turned out delicious and one huge part of that is because Green Chef sends out such fresh organic produce. Our cuts of meat were also fantastic!

Below is the making of the Sweet and Sour Pork. You can see I chose to leave the scallions whole for removal after cooking and to leave our bell peppers in slices instead of dicing them. We also pureed the pineapple and added it to the prepared sauce. The whole meal was served on a bed of quinoa and topped with cashews. I loved it so much I might’ve gone back for seconds.

Our other meal was baked Rosemary Chicken with Italian Breadcrumbs atop pasta with a red sauce & mushrooms. The chicken was phenomenal and definitely stole the show!

All in all, I think Green Chef is completely wonderful! Especially for busy parents who don’t always get a lot of mealtime prep or for those that work long hours. For me, getting Green Chef deliveries is kind of the bridge between eating out and cooking completely from scratch at home. I get to try something different, but I still know exactly what’s in my dinner. They also have all different kinds of meal plans and can accommodate those with special diets such as vegan.

  1. Awesome! I’ve always thought about trying something like this, especially on busy nights where I don’t have anything planned. Are you supposed to use immediately or can the product be stored ??

    1. Shelley, you can definitely store in the fridge for a few days. I’d say the same kind of expiration dates as when you buy the groceries yourself. I made the first dish the day after we received our ingredients, but didn’t get the opportunity to cook the chicken until the weekend and everything was still delicious & fresh.

  2. This looks delicious! Buying organic is a something we try and do with as many items as possible and I love the option to have everything delivered right to your door, along with recipes/ instructions.

  3. This sounds amazing and so easy to use. I may have to try it. I tried a food delivery service before and it didn’t go so well. I’m going to have to check this one out. xo ~ Megan
