There is a trend at the beginning of a new year for people to make lofty goals for themselves usually of the physical variety. For some who turn these goals into action and succeed, that is amazing! But for the majority, myself included, come the end of the year my goals from the beginning hang heavily over my head and weigh down my heart.

At the beginning of 2016, I was 6 months pregnant and not making goals for weight loss or anything of that kind. In fact, my year’s goal didn’t really come into focus until after my daughter was born. Having a child is such a life defining moment. It was with our son and was again with our daughter. But, having a daughter changed me. I started taking loving myself just the way I am more seriously. If I’m not a secure woman, how can I raise one?

So, when I got ready, I’d tell myself I was beautiful (stretch marks and baby weight included). When I felt clever or intelligent, or even just when I felt like I had been an awesome mom that day, I soaked up that feeling of success. The better I felt about myself, the better others felt about me. I could see it on their faces as plain as day. The secret is confidence because being who you are will always be most attractive.

So my new year’s resolution is to keep on loving myself. With that in mind, I am amazing because I am a dedicated mom and a supportive wife. I also strive to be fiercely loyal, kind, hardworking, & thoughtful. I want to teach our children to be these things as well. I want to teach our daughter to feel good in her own skin and teach my son that strength in a woman is something to be treasured not condemned. So, I think, the best way to teach all of this is to embody it. To believe it. To be it. Just Happily Me.

  1. Yes yes YES! Girl, YOU are my sister from another mister! 🙂

    This especially:

When we were pregnant with Remy Bea, I told my husband “Never will I say anything poorly about myself again in front of my children” They are always watching, always listening. And it’s EXTRA difficult with a baby girl. I’m very conscious of what I’m saying and the confidence I’m portraying!

My goal for 2017 is to just be happily me, too!
