I adore when gender stereotypes are broken down, which is why Princess Awesome has skyrocketed to the top of my all-time favorite small businesses list!
Besides the super cool dinosaurs, the first thing I noticed about Baby K’s new dress was the lovely bright colors, which not only look beautiful, but also capture baby’s attention! Our daughter spent quite a bit of time really studying her skirt. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen her do this and she couldn’t even be bothered to look up for a picture she was so enthralled.
For my fellow cloth diapering parents, Princess Awesome’s snapsuits are cloth diaper friendly! We got baby K a 12M snapsuit and it fits like a dream with just a little room to grow. I also love that the dress can be used in the summer as is or in winter by just adding a sweater and tights.
I really think there is a demand for dresses (and headbands) with cars, trains, planes, dinosaurs, science, and math. More to the point, I want dresses for my daughter with those things because she already loves cars and is always trying to steal big brother’s. So, I think it’s an absolutely wonderful idea to put these very incorrectly identified albeit traditional “boy” icons on girl’s clothing as a way of saying, “Hey, you know, girls like these, too.”
Girls want to wear twirly dresses that also have trains. And if a girl’s favorite subject in school is science, but her favorite color is purple, she should be able to have clothing that matches her personality. Women are just as multifaceted as men, so we should both have clothing that reflects our unique interests and it all starts by encouraging young minds to be who they want to be and to take pride in their interests.
Princess Awesome’s clothing ingeniously gives our little boy and baby girl topics to bond over since my son is completely obsessed with cars and dinosaurs. It bridges a gap between the two genders because there shouldn’t be one in the first place. For me, I want to say (and hear other parents say), “My boy and girl love to play trains together and then they head into the kitchen and bake for awhile.” That’s my dream. True equality for my kids, and more to the point, a world that values that equality.
So, if your little girl loves science, math, transportation vehicles, and other awesome things, join me in supporting Princess Awesome!
