Eric worked an eight day stretch and I was going absolutely stir crazy! We only have one car and he’s working a night shift, so when he leaves, I don’t. Of course, he didn’t want to go out since he’d been out of the house for the past eight days and I absolutely needed to go out, so I knew that I’d have to come up with something creative to do to get him to even consider leaving the comfort of our home. San Pedro Springs Park was the perfect lure! I have Alamo City Mom Blog to thank for this tip! Check out the article written by Katy detailing four other amazing parks to visit!
In this crazy heat, we’d both been desperate to go swimming and the idea of going swimming in a park was too cool (literally!). Plus, we had taken Logan swimming once before and were eager to get him back in the water since he had loved it so much the first time. Not to mention, we have all his swimming gear and it would be a shame not to get more use out of it. Huge bonus for me: I got to try out a cloth swim diaper for the first time!!!
We had so much fun! I’m so glad that we went. Logan was hesitant at first to get in the water. I’m not sure if he was overwhelmed by all the people, but we just kept playing with him as we moved deeper into the pool and eventually he started enjoying himself. I’m glad that we stuck it out and didn’t get discouraged at his initial reaction!
After about an hour in the water, they called a break. We got out and situated ourselves in the shade on a blanket. I fed Logan and we all had some water to make sure that we stayed hydrated. As soon as the pool opened back up, we were ready! We got back in a enjoyed another hour of water fun. Logan enjoyed ‘swimming’, floating, and being tossed up in the air. I enjoyed being cool and I know Eric did too. We were smiling the whole time and on the way home all we could discuss was how much we had enjoyed ourselves and how glad we were we had done it.
I was born and raised in San Antonio, so the fact that I had NEVER been to this park kind of blows my mind. If you haven’t been, you need to go! If you have been, you need to go back! It’s beautiful! Plenty of shade and great activity for the whole family!
